This month I am trying to do something different with our letters. My husband and I love birding for a hobby. We share this with our kids in our personal parts of our letters which I take out of the blog. So a few times a year I am going to write about some of our favorite birds. This letter was harder for me to write because it’s so different from my normal letters. Feel free to share with your kids. Be inspired.
Hello my dear friends! We have been looking forward to sharing with you about some of our favorite birds. We want to write to you about out national bird the Bald Eagle. It has breathtaking beauty and can be found all over the USA. One of my favorite things about this bird is how big it is. 76-79 cm tall and can have a wing spans of up to 183 cm. Most adults when they spread their arms wide have a arm width the same as an Bald Eagle. Ask an adult in your life to to do this it’s pretty big!
Because they are so big they need huge nests. The are very deep and wide and can be as heavy as a big car. They reuse the nest and add on to them every year. Sometimes they get so big they brake the trees they are in.
Another one of my favorite facts about this bird is full adults have a beautiful white head and tail. It takes about 5-7 years for this bird to fully mature to adulthood. They start out all brown and slowly become more whiter on head and tail over the years. They are also very good hunters and eat fish for main source of food. Mark and I love to watch them dive for food and watch them soar in the sky. In February we like to take a day trip to one of the longest rivers in the USA called the Mississippi River. Because of our winters in Wisconsin a lot of Bald Eagles do a short migration to this river that does not freeze in our cold weather. We have seen over 50 of them on trees looking for fish in winter on this river. Others may stay in our town but will eat a lot of dead animals in cold weather.
The Mississippi River almost splits the USA in half starting in Minnesota (state next to us) and it makes its way straight down to the Gulf of Mexico. Both this river and the eagle are a beautiful example of Gods beautiful creation. We want to encourage you to look at Gods world around you. From the sun in the sky to the trees in your town Gods wonders are all around you. He created all things for you and loves you. Before you go to bed tonight look into the sky and see the stars He created that masterpiece for you. We see the same stars in the sky as you do this makes us feel closer to you.
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.Psalms 29:1
God bless and we love you! Sending you photos of the Bald Eagle and a map of the Mississippi River location. I put a mark on the map to show where we live. Have a blessed week.
Love Always Mark and Laura
